Do I sound funny to you? It’s just I’ve had this virus and I feel like I’m under water – everything is a bit slower and it’s pretty hard to breathe. Only Dave managed to stay well over the holidays which inevitably means he is exhausted from having to take the strain while I’ve been extra pathetic and the children have been ill, whiney and anti-sleep.
All this makes for a weary start to the year. While the world joins the gym, loses weight and commits to running a marathon or two I sit scowling at the new year – I’ve just about mustered up the energy to open the door to it and say, “you might as well come in but don’t make a mess. I just hope you’re a bit better than the last one”. Let’s be honest, I wasn’t the cheeriest of souls in 2012!
So, no grand plans or resolutions from me. Just the desire to move beyond survival to the point where I enjoy and flourish in the life I’ve been given. I think that can happen in the appreciation of daily goodness and in seeking out opportunities to keep growing. Who knows what that will mean in the year ahead.
I am planning to continue my (pretty much) daily record of #3goodthings on twitter if you want to join in. I have very much appreciated having a blogging break. I don’t know yet how regularly I will be posting in 2013, but I have decided that each year I will rest from blogging in August and December. Hopefully this will help this continue to be something I do because I love it.
Do you have any goals for the year ahead? Have you been sad or glad to wave goodbye to 2012?

You have had it tough Alice, I hope you all are feeling back to full steam soon! As for the new year…like you, I just hope to learn what I need to learn from whatever comes my way.
Illness agrees with you – sharp writing, sister!
And eurgh and blurrgh too. I’m also stepping gingerly into this new year. I hereby postpone the start of the new year till mid march. Might be ready for it then. Join me? We can pop party streamers on march 12th.
Much love xx
Yay! Welcome back! I so appreciate your blog, and your writing blesses me (and many of my friends who I’ve directed/dragged here) so much! Thank you! And, gosh, it sounds like you’ve had a difficult time of things over Christmas – I hope the next few weeks are better and easier for you all. xx
