Dave and I had a bit of a whirlwind romance. It took us a good while to realise we liked each other but once we did we were engaged within two months of getting together and married seven months later (our parents are very nice, aren’t they?!). A month or so before we got together I was trying to work out what on earth I was going to do with my life. I was doing a year working with a Christian charity but the dark abyss beyond was looming already!

I was pretty keen on the idea of heading to Bible college and had been since graduating. I’d loved my Theology degree and could have happily just kept on studying! I looked through the Oak Hill prospectus and starting thinking about cost. But then Dave changed everything and we landed in Leyland!

It was lovely to catch a glimpse of what might have been this week. I visited my lovely friend Mel who is in charge of the Youth and Children’s Ministry course at Oak Hill. I did a couple of lecturers on how to include children with disabilities in church.

I wouldn’t change how life turned out, but equally I know I would have loved it! The friendliness, the encouraging atmosphere, the beautiful grounds. The chance to read, study, think and write. Oh delicious!

Mel made me so welcome. I’d been quite nervous as I left Leyland to drive down but it disappeared in a flash just being with Mel. She’s the kind of person who brings out confidence and makes me relax. what a gift!

Truly though, how do people teach regularly? It took me ages to prepare two lectures (hence very little blogging and no new Bible stories, eek!), I have enormous respect for people who can do it seemingly without stress, and worry!

We went out for tasty Mexican food and then went to see Legally Blond the Musical! So lovely to do something I LOVED that I know Dave would have hated if I’d made him tag along! I forgot my camera – so excuse the rubbish afterthought picture.

I’ll do some posts about some of my thoughts from the lectures and my preparation for them. But for now, I’m still smiling from the fun of escaping normality, hanging out with a precious friend and doing life differently. Sigh!

P.S. Lovely Bethan and Tenebou have had a baby girl! Pray for them as they get used to being parents and head home to Senegal soon.

Don’t worry about forgetting your camera – there will be plenty, and video too, once the new Oak Hill Publicity comes out! xxx

You were great – well worth the hard work and preparation – Thank you so much. Lots to think about and adapt for the roles which we have!
